I don’t know about you, but when I visit new cities, I like to look up the best places to eat while I’m in town. YOLO! Why live it up just when you’re traveling, though? You should eat like you’re on vacation even from your own kitchen, because Hunny, you’re worth it.
There’s often a lot of research that goes into picking out the perfect restaurant or food stop on a trip. Doesn’t it seem like a waste to experience an anticipated dish or drink just once, though? (That is, assuming you’re not planning on going back to the same destination again.) So here’s a proposition: aim to recreate the most memorable dishes from your travels at home. It’s a fun way to revisit the memories you created on your vacation and bond with the people who you traveled with.
Here are some things to keep in mind if you want to Eat Like You’re on Vacation:
Indulge in moderation
You will savor flavors more and reduce guilt after ordering a rich dish if you keep snacks lite. If you know you’re going to have a creamy or greasy entree, then substitute your side of fries with a salad that has dressing on the side. Balance, people!
Have an open mind
By cooking with produce, spices, and grains from different cultures, you will expand your palette and have more taste variety.
Every recipe has a story
Skimming over food magazines and recipe books will help you learn about a region’s food, but if you seek out experiences like cooking classes, food festivals, or tours, you will learn so much more about where the ingredients come from and how it should be prepared. You’ll probably have good stories to tell after participating in a food experience too!
All of the recipes on this blog are inspired in some way by certain dishes or drinks I’ve had, either on trips out of town or in my beloved home state of Maryland. Thank you for following along on my journey!
