One of my favorite discoveries at Trader Joes of all time is their garlic spread. If you’ve ever eaten at a Mediterranean restaurant, chances are you’ve had this before, except it was likely called toum, meaning “garlic” in Lebanese. On its own it’s amazing, but it’s even better when used as a base for a dip because it is already so flavorful and creamy! I’ve made this vegan artichoke dip multiple times, and I even surprised myself… I never knew it was possible to make artichoke dip so tasty without adding cheese!
Word to the wise: stock up on Trader Joe’s garlic spread by freezing it, and when you need it you won’t have to make a special trip to the store. Just run the frozen container under hot water to dethaw it.
This vegan artichoke dip recipe is so simple you can memorize it.
Optional ingredient to add a little kick: harissa sauce.
Where to buy Harissa:
- Harissa sauce is not sold in most grocery stores. I’ve seen it at Trader Joe’s, and it’s also available at Whole Foods stores or online through Whole Foods Market on Amazon. I go for the Mild flavor, but if you’re daring you could go for the spicy sauce!
- Alternatively, here is a recipe to make harissa sauce in 45 minutes.
Tools you’ll need to make this:
- A food processor will get the artichokes and garlic spread mixed together well into a smooth consistency.
Vegan Artichoke dip
Ingredients
- ½ container of Trader Joe's garlic spread
- 2 13.75 oz. cans of drained artichoke quarters
- 2 tbsp diced chives or green onion
- 1 16 oz bag of mini sweet peppers
- 3 tbsp Harissa sauce, optional (Add if you want a kick!)
Instructions
- Turn on the oven to 350 degrees.
- Cut off the stems from the peppers then cut the peppers in half lengthwise and remove the seeds from the center. Arrange on a platter.
- In a food processor, pulse the garlic spread with 1 can of artichoke hearts. Transfer to a mixing bowl and stir in the remaining artichoke quarters so it will have a chunky consistency. Spread the mixture into a shallow baking dish.
- Bake for 20 minutes and let sit for a couple of minutes to cool down.
- Top with diced chives/green onion to garnish. Dig in and enjoy!
