This month everything I’m making has an Italian flair to it since I’m going on an Italian-themed “staycation.” Everyone who’s been to Italy knows that Italians love their aperitif’s, so let me introduce you to a drink you probably haven’t heard of before: The Hugo Spritz. Better yet, the Redefined Hugo Spritz!
Introducing the Hugo Spritz
Turns out, the drink hasn’t been around for that long! In 2005 a bartender from a small town called Naturns, just south of the Austrian border in northern Italy, made up the recipe and the rest has been history. The original recipe is made with prosecco, elderflower syrup, seltzer, mint leaves, and ice, then is stirred and served in a wine glass.
Love spritz drinks?
Try another recipe of mine, the Truly Aperol Sprtiz, which is made from Aperol, Seltzer water, Prosecco, an orange slice, and hard seltzer!
Everything tastes better with a Truly
As you may have guessed, I swapped out seltzer for flavored Truly hard seltzer, added muddled blackberries then lime, and wallah! We got ourselves a drink!
Here is the printer-friendly recipe:
The Redefined Hugo Spritz
Ingredients
- 5 blackberries
- 1 sprig of mint
- ¼ cup ice
- 1 tbsp elderflower syrup
- ½ cup lime flavored hard seltzer (e.g. Truly or White Claw)
- ½ cup Prosecco
- 1 slice of lime
Instructions
- Muddle the blackberries in the bottom of a tall glass
- Add mint, then ice, and pour the rest of the ingredients into the glass. I suggest not stirring the drink before serving since it looks cool with the blackberries at the bottom and clear bubbly on top. Provide a straw though so others can stir their drink if they'd like. Cheers!
